Girls wrestling is growing in Skiatook and they finally have their own separate team. The girls had eight on the varsity team last year, and this year, they have 13. They came together and built this team and sisterhood. They all work as hard as possible and put their mind to everything, achieving all their goals. Last year, five girls qualified for state, and one girl was runner-up at state. The qualifiers were Destiny Jones, Kallie Hamilton, Maggie Bearid, Sydelle Vaughn, and Jayden Church.
This year they are hoping to qualify seven girls or more for state and if they do, then Bearett Beaird has made a deal to bleach his hair. So those girls are after winning for them and the school. This year they officially separated from the boys, they have their own room, their own schedule, their own way of practicing, and their own singlets. This year they got new coaches. Angie Beaird is the head coach and Koni Donahoe is the assistant coach.
They bring in Richie Lee, Rhian O’Kelly, and Bearett Beaird. Richie Lee is a Skiatook Alumni and took wrestling state when he competed in High School and has lots of wrestling background and experience. Rhian O’Kelly wrestled all through highschool and his childhood and he wrestled for the Navy. Bearett Beaird is the head coach, Angie Beaird’s son and he has a crazy wrestling background. He went to Fargo and won multiple competitions and titles. He is amazing overall.
The girls recently competed at the Broken Arrow Girls Open preseason tournament. On November 15th, 2024. They plan to compete at the big Union Girls Open preseason tournament on November 23, 2024. Their first dual will be held in Cleveland, on December 5th, 2024. Their first home tri-dual will be held in Skiatook on December, 19th, 2024. So come watch these girls make history this year, and take state.
