Have you heard of Literacy Night? It’s a night full of reading interesting new books with family and friends! If you love reading and discussing books, this is the event for you. Literacy Night was hosted at Skiatook High School library on Thursday, October 10th from 5 to 7 pm. This event has been held annually since Skiatook High School became a Title I school. Literacy Night is sponsored and funded by our English teachers, librarians, and Title I funds. This event had free food, entertaining books, like-minded people for some good fellowship, door prizes, and more!
There were four genres in the book-tasting section of our event, these genres included: mystery, realistic fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy. The mystery is ‘Five Survive’ by Holly Jackson. The next book is a story about a group of teenagers who go on a trip during Spring break and find themselves trapped in an impossible situation. Next is a realistic fiction called ‘The Silence Between Us’ by Alison Geravais. This story follows a deaf young woman who moves to a new school, allowing the reader to see the struggles she faces with her disability. The historical fiction is ‘I Must Betray You’ by Ruta Sepetys. The novel covers the life of a teenager living in a communist country who is trying to survive the communist police. And finally, the fantasy book is ‘Six Crimson Crans’ by Elizabeth Lim. This book is full of mind-boggling twists and turns, a princess, a paper crane, and a dragon who must break the curse to save the princess and her brothers.
If these books sound interesting to you or you are a person who enjoys reading and having a peaceful time with snacks, art, games, and fellowship this is the place for you to attend! Upon entering the room, your name will be entered into the door prize contest where you can win a Kindle, a book light, a themed blanket, and many more smaller prizes! We had so much fun and we would love to see you next year!
